The Speech Pathology Word List Project is a project that has very casual beginnings. The idea initially took hold when a speech therapist very casually mentioned (to a software designer) how it would be neat to be able to find words with certain characteristics representing problem areas for people they were working with.
From there the cogs started turning. There began to be the notion that it was an interesting problem and that implementing the solution could serve as a testing ground for some software development tools and techniques. An interesting problem indeed and the door to the world of language and phonemes has been opened. There is no turning back now!
The project is a work in progress, but there is currently a web based tool for creating customized lists of words by specifying criteria, primarily relating to phonemes. There are currently 2 implementations of the tool, each offering their advantages, with one currently having more functionality than the other. We are still working on both of them.
Try them, create some lists, and give feedback if you wish or let us know if you find the tool useful...or not useful and why not.
- Word Search Tool #1 - basic but fully functional
- Word Search Tool #2 - elegant but currently with fewer search options
